Iowa Health Systems needed a web site for their Methodist & Lutheran and Blank Children’s Hospitals in Des Moines. The finished product was a web site that neatly categorized a vast wealth of knowledge in an intuitive and consistent fashion with popular quick links easily accessible at the top of every page. The persistent section navigation on the left, and hierarchy of sub-navigation on the right, help the user see where they are and move quickly to similar topics as desired. A patient greeting system and child site tailored to Blank Children’s Hospital were also developed. Users had the choice to choose one of eight patient greeting card styles which would be customized with their name, patients’ name, and a short personal message. These would be printed out daily in batch to be delivered to the patients rooms. The patient greetings were a great feature to offer, and received high praise from users. The Blank Children’s Hospitals child site was designed to use the exact same functionality as the parent site, but with a different visual style targeted to parents for their children. This strategy lent itself to lower production costs and a consistent site flow from one site to the other. These sites (designed by Michael Welsch while working as Art Director at Spindustry Systems) were moved to another vendor by a group that owned the Des Moines, and many other hospitals. The new vendor had a contract where they would to all the groups Hospitals across the country. The staff at Iowa Health Systems wanted to keep Spindustry as the provider, though unfortunately it was out of their control.
